మేము క్రిస్టియన్స్ కి ఇల్లు ఇవ్వము

హలో అన్న మగ గొంతు విని, సార్ ఇక్కట To-let poster కనిపించింది, నేను interested గా ఉన్నాను, కొంచెం వివరాలు చెబుతారా అంటూ short గా, smart గా చకచకా అడిగింది నికిత. సరే మనం ఆదివారం కలుద్దాం. నేను ఉదయం పది గంటల నుండీ సాయంత్రం వరకూ నేను అక్కడే ఉంటాను అన్నది ఆ మగ గొంతు. Thanku sir అని చెప్పి phone cut చేసింది నికిత. ఈ ఇల్లు ఎలాగైనా నాకే వస్తే బావుండును. రాజీవ్ స్వగృహ ambiance చాలా బావుంటుంది. సాయంకాలం ఆ చల్లటి గాలిలో walking చేస్తూ ఉంటే శరీరం తేలిక అవుతుంది. రాత్రి భోజనాలయ్యాక parking place దగ్గరలో తన భర్తతో కబుర్లు చెబుతూ ఉంటే మనసు గాలిలో తేలిపోతుందేమో అనుకుంటూ మురిసిపోతుంది.

ఆదివారం ఎట్టి పరిస్తితులలోనూ తను church కి వెళ్లడం మానదు. కానీ ఇంటి అవసరాన్ని గుర్తుంచుకొని, దేవుడి సమయాన్ని సాయంత్రానికి postpone చేసి 9.30 am కే పక్కనే ఉన్న తన friend ఇంట్లో ఉండి owner కోసం ఎదురుచూస్తూ ఉంది. సరిగ్గా మధ్యాహ్నం ఒంటి గంటకు owner వచ్చాడు. వస్తూనే నికిత ను ఒకింత పరిశీలనగా చూసాడు. నుదుటన బొట్టు లేకపోవడం గమనించి, "నేను Christians కి ఇల్లు ఇవ్వను" అన్నాడు. నికిత ఒక్క క్షణం విస్తుబోయింది. వెంటనే కోలుకుని మేము converted Christians, మేము కాపులం అంది. కాలానుగుణంగా Christians అంటే Scheduled Caste అనే అర్ధాన్ని దలితులు మరియు మిగతా సమాజం తయారు చేసింది. అందుకే నికిత తన కులాన్ని బయటికి తీసింది. అయినా ఆ owner తగ్గలేదు. మరోసారి తన నిర్ణయాన్ని ఖరాఖండిగా చెప్పేసాడు.

నికిత కోపంగా బయటికి వచ్చేసింది. నా ముఖంలోకి చిరాగ్గా చూసి మీ university లో ఉద్యోగస్తులందరూ ఇంతేనా అంది. అత్యుత్తమ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం అనే చెప్పబడే చోట, అత్యున్నంతంగా పాటించే కుల, మత వ్యవస్థల గురించి ఒక్క మాటలో చెప్పలేం కదా. సర్లే ఇంకో ఇల్లు వెతుకుదాం పద అని అక్కడ నుండి కదిలాం.మన clarity ఎదుటి వారిని ఇబ్బంది పెట్టకూడదు అని మనం నివశిస్తున్న సమాజానికి ఎందుకు అర్ధం కాదు. బయట poster లోనో లేక ఫోన్లో మాట్లాడినప్పుడో తను ఎలాంటి వారికి అద్దెకివ్వాలనుకుంటున్నాడో చెబితే సరిపోతుంది కదా. అన్ని రోజులు, అన్ని గంటలు wait చేయించిన తరువాత చావు కబురు చెప్పడంలో వారు పొందే పైశాచిక ఆనందం ఏమిటి, పైగా నేనూ University of Hyderabad లోనే పనిచేస్తాను అని గర్వంగా చెప్పడం.

  Nanda Kishor Iyengar There is a compromise on both sides...she should have not accepted or revealed her caste...the very movement to another religion is for self respect and leaving that self respect and revealing the identity of the past requires clarity. on the other note, the owner might have thought about food habits also...may be he mentioned to her we wont give to Christians because he found out that she is a christian....he might even deny for a Hindu who is a meat eater. There is subjugation and hierarchy at multiple levels i believe. You being student leader and active activist why you did not protest at his reaction? anyway, you are open to discussion so i wrote...good narration...you could have written fully in telugu...

  సురేష్ కుమార్ దిగుమర్తి Nanda Kishor Iyengar (1) We all are very well aware that hierarchy and subjugation are at multiple levels. We are all protesting in the possible ways against it but context matters in every situation. 
  
  (2) Your usage of "might" appears that you are trying to support the owner. Let him have 'n' number of thoughts to protect his beliefs, but he has no right to insult, hurt, and waste others time. He would have valued the person from other side by giving clarity in the first call itself. "He" means not only he, we all come under this category. We mutilate things in the beginning and later persons to give a simple expression. 
  
  (3) She has revealed the caste because of the similar past experiences of mutilations. There are many previous experiences (even write ups) regarding renting a house and caste dimensions. She has opened up to end up that concealed inquiry. 
  
  (4) I am no more a student and every existing benefit enjoyed by the marginalized community is a result of long long struggle. Protest will never stop but changes its form from time to time as the "oppression" changes its shape.

  Nanda Kishor Iyengar సురేష్ కుమార్ దిగుమర్తి Its a nice rejoinder by you as i believe in dialogue. It is a welcome expression. Let me straight away come to the heart of the argument. What on earth makes the person to know somebody calling is Christian, Muslim or Parsi or even Hindu? Lets imagine he did ask on the phone, then there would have been a write up saying in the phone itself the owner was asking all this. Heights of discrimination and all that. Now the question arises here is also that did the protagonist reveal the identity over phone? 1. I raised the question of revealing the identity. You have mentioned of past experience. I essentially do not believe it is the case with every house owner. There are numerous friends of you as well as mine who have found houses for rent. I had raised the question of dignity as a major concept in my argument for moving into another religion. 2.Can you explain me the psyche of the person as to why he actually denied? There are multiple level analysis that go into it as it is private property and it is the sole wish of the person to give. I am no way supporting the owner but also opening the other side as to engage in a dialogue. There is a issue of acculturation here from one side where as there is a resistance from the other. Looking forward to a fruitful dialogue if it is not offending you.

  సురేష్ కుమార్ దిగుమర్తి It is not offending me. If it is offending, then it is not first time and you are not the first one. My idea of sharing is to get fruit but not fight. My post is not just a continuation of similar experience but also to understand changing trends in letting houses. Your friends have got houses and my friends got houses including my self. My friends were denied houses on the basis of caste and religion and I guess, it happened with your friends also. But denial on the basis of our belief is not that simple as we discuss. There are persons who have got national and international awards could not get rent in India just because of their cultural backgrounds. If you find a problem with my proposal, then you can suggest alternative where both the parties could handle without hurting each other. We are seriously missing it in our culture. Can't we have national rent policy where everybody's interests are respected.

  సురేష్ కుమార్ దిగుమర్తి Yes swarna, he had asked that question. If I was given a chance to interpret it, i wud interpret that reiteration of religion as confirmation of the caste. Otherwise he wud directly ask the caste or put forward his concerns in letting the house.

Which means how many persons like nikitha wud have wasted their time and felt dejected in public life. Generally people crave for those apartments.
